Doing Business, Doing Good: Fair Trade and Entrepreneurship

  • Saturday, March 10, 2007

Fair trade exists to create opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers. Being involved with a fair trade business allows the producer to be treated equitably, be paid a fair price for their work and have access to good working conditions. People interested in fair-trade can pursue the double bottom line of "doing business and doing good" by:

  • Starting up a new fair trade venture, either for- or non-profit
  • Adding a fair-trade product or service to your current business
  • Using fair trade practices in your current business

This workshop will give you some ideas on how you can pursue a fair-trade business opportunity. We'll go over the basics of writing a business plan for a fair trade organization, go over a case study of a fair-trade entrepreneur, and give some tips for the first steps to undertake.
